Single Artwork & Animation
EXPERIENCE:
For my own single release, I created both the artwork and an accompanying animation. Sonmi 451 is an ethereal, hyperpop-inspired track with trance elements and a distinctly feminine energy. Because the track felt quite different from my previous work, I was excited to create visuals that reflected that new sonic direction.
The artwork draws heavily on Y2K and even Y3K aesthetics. The typography is the element I’m most proud of, as it allowed me to experiment with combining multiple typefaces into one cohesive design. I began by selecting and layering several fonts together in Illustrator, adjusting their weight and structure before converting them into 3D forms. After importing the text into Blender, I sculpted the typography further and applied two contrasting textures, a glossy, bubble-like outer layer and a sharper inner layer, to give the lettering more depth and character.
The environment of the artwork is a dreamy, ocean-like landscape that complements the ethereal tone of the track. I also incorporated elements from my Melba visual branding. The phone object was adapted from a previous project, which allowed me to experiment with reusing and refining existing assets within a new context.
The animation explores different camera angles across the scene, revealing details that aren’t as visible in the static artwork and bringing the environment to life. I had so much fun creating this project and really enjoyed pushing my typography and 3D workflow further.
